This non-native version of Erect Dayflower is easily found in native habitats with its two blue petals and lower white petal brightly standing out against the greenery.
It is quite similar to the native Commelina erecta which shares the same common name 'Dayflower'. Commelina communis can be distinguished from the native by noting that its flower spathe is free, not fused at its base, and its leaf sheaths are smooth (glabrous) rather than white-ciliate. It also tends to sprawl more than the native Erect Dayflower.
