Pale Jewelweed, Yellow Jewelweed

Family: Balsaminaceae

Mid-Atlantic bloom time: July - September

Jewelweed is a widespread and common plant that grows in moist, semi-shady areas. The fruit is an elongated capsule, which, when ripe, bursts open at the slightest touch (hence one of its common names, Touch-me-not).

Pale Jewelweed can be distingushed from Orange Jewelweed (Impatiens capensis) not only by its lighter color, but the 'spur' on the back of its flower hangs down, perpendicular to the main body of the flower instead of curving up towards the front of the flower.
