Squirrel Corn

Family: Fumariaceae

Mid-Atlantic bloom time: late April

One could make a good argument that the flowers on Squirrel Corn are some of the prettiest to be found amongst the early blooming mid-Atlantic area flora. Look for them in rich floodplane forests and on slopes in other somewhat wet areas.

Compare this to the more common and closely related Dutchman's Breeches Dicentra cucullaria.
